Program Expense Ratio represents the percentage of expenses directed to programs vs. administration and fundraising. A ratio above 75% is considered excellent by charity watchdog standards.

Governance Policies

The following policies govern the operations of MurphsLife Foundation and are reviewed annually by our Board of Directors.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Board members, officers, and key employees are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest annually and recuse themselves from decisions where a conflict exists. This policy ensures that all decisions are made in the best interest of the Foundation and the communities we serve.

Whistleblower Protection Policy

MurphsLife Foundation encourages reporting of suspected illegal activity, fraud, or violations of our policies. We prohibit retaliation against any person who in good faith reports a concern. Reports may be made confidentially to the Board Chair or directly to our legal counsel.

Document Retention and Destruction Policy

We retain financial records for a minimum of 7 years as required by IRS regulations. Board minutes and governance documents are retained permanently. Electronic records are backed up regularly. No documents relevant to pending litigation or government investigations shall be destroyed.

Gift Acceptance Policy

MurphsLife Foundation accepts cash, check, credit card, and electronic donations. Non-cash gifts (including cryptocurrency, securities, and in-kind donations) are evaluated by the Executive Director before acceptance. We reserve the right to decline gifts that conflict with our mission or create undue burden.

Compensation Policy

Compensation for all employees is reviewed annually by the Board of Directors and set at levels comparable to similar nonprofit organizations. Executive compensation is disclosed in our annual Form 990 filing.
